Cheryl Potts — Music Rights Management Expert & FounderCheryl Potts is a music rights management expert, entrepreneur, and founder with more than 20 years of hands-on experience helping music creators, publishers, and record labels understand, manage, protect, and monetize their music rights.Her expertise spans the full lifecycle of music rights administration—from copyright registration, music licensing, and publishing administration to royalty tracking, accounting, performance rights, and catalog management. What sets Cheryl apart is that her knowledge was built from the ground up. She has personally managed the processes that determine how music rights are documented, licensed, tracked, and ultimately paid.In 2004, Cheryl founded Crystal Clear Music, initially as an independent music publishing company. As her clients' needs grew, the company evolved into a full-service music rights administration firm serving record labels, music publishers, and independent rights owners.Her commitment to understanding the business went beyond practical experience. Early in her career, Cheryl sought out a law professor at UNC Chapel Hill to deepen her understanding of copyright law and was invited to audit the professor's copyright law class alongside law students. That experience helped strengthen the foundation for the practical rights expertise she developed throughout her career.Cheryl's expertise eventually led her to the U.S. Copyright Office, where she was invited to provide an independent industry perspective for a major music licensing study. Her comments were incorporated into the Copyright Office's final report, which contributed to the policy work that ultimately helped shape the Music Modernization Act of 2018.In 2022, Cheryl was elected Secretary of the Atlanta Chapter of the Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP), where she continues to serve as an officer and advocate for independent music publishers and rights holders.Recognizing how difficult and time-consuming music rights administration can be—particularly for independent creators—Cheryl combined her music industry expertise with her technology background to develop Cleerkut Royalty. The platform is designed to simplify complex administrative processes such as royalty reporting, licensing, copyright and performance rights registration, and catalog management.Today, Cheryl brings together two decades of real-world music rights experience with technology and innovation to help music creators and rights owners better understand their rights, keep track of their catalogs, and ensure they have the tools and information needed to maximize the value of their music.Her mission is straightforward: make music rights management easier to understand, easier to manage, and more accessible to the people who own the music.
